Do you renew Portuguese ID cards and/ or passports?
No, ID cards and passports must be done/ renewed at your local Consulate or in Portugal.
What do I need to apply for my American Citizenship?
You need a valid permanent resident card (green card) for at least 5 years, or 3 years if applying via a spouse. Please contact the office for a full checklist of supplemental documents.
Are you lawyers? Do you work with lawyers in Portugal?
No, we are not lawyers and we do not provide legal advice. We can assist you in finding a lawyer or solicitor for your specific case in Portugal, and facilitate communication between you and your legal representative.
How long does the Portuguese citizenship process take?
Timelines vary based on application type, details of your case, and the influx of applications. Current processing times for citizenship through a parent, on average, is 12-18 months, and through a spouse or grandparent is between 2-5 years.
Are my children, spouse or grandchildren eligible for Portuguese citizenship if I am a Portuguese citizen?
Yes! Children, grandchildren and spouses of Portuguese citizens are eligible for dual citizenship. Contact the office to learn more.
I was born in Portugal but emigrated as a child. What do I need to apply for my dual citizenship?
If you were born in Portugal, you are most likely already a Portuguese citizen. You should go to your local consulate to apply for an ID card, or we can request your birth certificate from Portugal to verify the status of your citizenship.
